Liam Payne’s Body to Be Released to Family After Pending Clinical Tests Are Completed

Liam Payne's death investigation

The body of British musician Liam Payne, who passed away on Wednesday in Buenos Aires, will not be returned to his family until authorities finalize the remaining clinical tests. Officials expect these tests to be completed next week, though results may be available as early as this weekend.

Geoff Payne, the father of the former One Direction star, arrived in Buenos Aires on Friday. He was granted permission to view his son’s body at the morgue. Geoff also visited the hotel where Liam had stayed but was not allowed to enter his son’s room due to the ongoing investigation. Instead, he was shown a similar room on another floor.

Outside the hotel, Payne’s father met with fans who had gathered to show their support. He thanked them and visited a memorial filled with photos, letters, candles, and flowers.

Liam Payne tragically died on Wednesday after falling from the third floor of his hotel. The preliminary autopsy reported that the cause of death was “polytrauma” with “internal and external bleeding,” although toxicology tests are still pending.

Authorities continue to investigate the circumstances surrounding his death at the CasaSur Palermo Hotel. According to the public prosecutor’s office, initial findings suggest that Payne was alone when the fall occurred. They are also considering the possibility that Payne, who had previously been open about his struggles with addiction and mental health, may have been experiencing an episode related to substance abuse at the time.

The news of Payne’s death has deeply affected fans and the music industry, with tributes pouring in from across the world. His former bandmates from One Direction—Harry Styles, Niall Horan, Louis Tomlinson, and Zayn Malik—paid tribute to him with a joint statement, as well as individual remembrances.

“We’re completely devastated by the news of Liam’s passing,” the band said. “The memories we shared with him will be treasured forever.”

Zayn Malik, who left One Direction in 2015, announced on Saturday that he was postponing his “Stairway to the Sky Tour” due to Payne’s passing. “Given the heartbreaking loss experienced this week, I’ve made the decision to postpone the US leg of the STAIRWAY TO THE SKY Tour,” he said, ensuring that tickets would remain valid for the rescheduled dates.

One Direction, which formed in 2010, became one of the best-selling boy bands of all time before going on an indefinite hiatus in 2016. Since then, each of the five members pursued solo careers, with Payne releasing his latest single, “Teardrops,” in March.
