James Van Der Beek, the 47-year-old actor best known for his role as Dawson Leery on Dawson’s Creek, has disclosed a colorectal cancer diagnosis. In an interview with People, Van Der Beek shared that he has been privately managing his diagnosis and is optimistic about his treatment.
“I have colorectal cancer. I’ve been privately dealing with this diagnosis and have been taking steps to resolve it,” he said, adding that he is “feeling good” and hopeful about his recovery.
Colorectal cancer originates in the colon’s lining and can spread if left untreated. Thanks to advanced screenings, early detection rates have increased, improving outcomes for many patients.
Van Der Beek’s career, spanning hits from Dawson’s Creek and Varsity Blues to Don’t Trust the B—- in Apartment 23, has continued uninterrupted. He is currently working on two projects, including Sidelined: The QB and Me, set for release on Tubi later this month.
